Gift baskets for Chester grads
To the Editor,
The Delaware County District Attorney’s Office is helping Chester High School and STEM Academy build community support for their Senior Gift Basket Project. The tradition of giving a gift basket to high-school seniors in Chester started as a way of showing support for them and for all the hard work they put in during their high school careers. The baskets are a token of appreciation for everything they had to accomplish in order to graduate from high school and overcome immediate circumstances.
This year in particular, these seniors have faced adversity, as we all have, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since they will not be afforded the traditional opportunities of finishing school with their friends, going to graduation parties, or walking to receive their diploma in person, it will mean even more that we as a community are stepping up to recognize their incredible accomplishments.
Due to the pandemic, and in an effort to limit face-to-face contact and the exchange of physical items, we are encouraging monetary donations to the GoFundMe account (link below). The goal is to make 250 gift baskets for our graduating seniors.
However, if you are able to make donations of physical items, below is a list of what we plan to fill the baskets with:
Single-wrapped rolls of toilet paper.
Single-wrapped rolls of paper towels.
Laundry detergent pods.
Toothpaste and single-wrapped toothbrushes.
Bars of soap or containers of body wash.
Instant soup.
Cereal boxes.
Miscellaneous toiletries.
Candy.
Flip-flops/shower shoes.
Twin-sized blankets and fitted sheets.
Fast-food (or other) restaurant gift cards or coupons.
Items can be dropped off locally on the front porch of 200 Park Ave. in Swarthmore (corner of Park and Harvard).
If you have questions, please contact Matt at matt.krouse@gmail.com or Margie at memcaboy@gmail.com. We want to have everything collected by Monday, June 1. That means we don’t have much time!
In exchange for a $500 contribution or equivalent donation of goods, we will gladly use your logo and advertise your business as a partner in this endeavor. It takes a village to raise a child. Let’s show Chester seniors how strong a village Delaware County is!
Please share this information with Chester City and Delaware County businesses and residents. Thank you in advance for your time and contribution!
